The Project
Indra partnered with us to create a customer-focused mobile app that simplifies EV charging. The goal was to give users complete control over their chargers, while integrating with smart energy tariffs and making use of solar energy when available. Little did we know that the project would go on to become an award-winning mobile app.
We approached the project using Agile methodology, combining user research, iterative design, and cross-platform development. Wireframes and prototypes helped define a simple, intuitive interface, while development in .NET MAUI and Xamarin ensured seamless performance on both iOS and Android devices.
The Indra App allows users to start, stop, and schedule charging sessions remotely, monitor charging status in real-time, and access historical data. By delivering a fast, reliable, and user-friendly experience, the app empowers EV owners to manage energy efficiently and reduce costs.

EV owners were increasingly looking for smarter, more intuitive ways to manage their charging, but existing solutions often fell short. Either lacking integration with modern energy tariffs, missing out on solar optimisation, or offering clunky, unintuitive interfaces. The task was clear: create an app that not only solved these issues but set a new benchmark in usability and innovation.
The challenge went beyond building features like remote charger control, tariff integration with providers such as Octopus and OVO, solar charging functionality, and real-time charging data. It was also about ensuring the app delivered a seamless, enjoyable experience that would empower EV owners to adopt smarter charging habits with ease. This required close collaboration, not only with Indra’s technical team but also with specialist UI and UX designers. Together, we worked to design and refine a product that was as visually engaging as it was technically advanced.
The Solution
The resulting Indra App offers users a powerful suite of features—remote control to start, stop, and schedule charging sessions from anywhere, integration with smart tariffs to automatically prioritise off-peak charging, solar-powered charging when available, and real-time updates on charging status and history.
This seamless functionality is underpinned by collaborations with EV energy partners and smart-charging ecosystems. Indra’s chargers themselves, such as the Smart PRO and Smart LUX, bring advanced functionality like over-the-air software updates, solar panel integration, and an industry-leading warranty, all designed, engineered, and built in the UK. The Smart PRO also integrates tariff options like OVO’s “Charge Anytime,” which reduces charging costs to as low as 7p/kWh, translating into potential annual savings of over £200.
Moreover, Indra’s partnership approach has extended its reach: collaborations with energy specialists like Octopus and OVO help deliver green energy options to users, and agreements with suppliers such as Starla Energy ensure the Smart PRO charger and app reach more homes. All of these elements come together to make the app not just intuitive but innovative. Offering intelligent, future-focused charging management that has earned industry recognition, including awards for Indra’s pioneering work in bidirectional charging technologies.
The Impact
Since its launch, the Indra App has attracted strong user engagement, evidenced by high retention rates and consistently positive reviews across app stores. Users regularly comment on gaining better control over their charging habits and energy costs, with added benefits like solar integration and smart-scheduling contributing to significant satisfaction gains.
On a broader scale, this enhanced customer experience has positioned Indra as a forerunner in the UK smart-charging market. With substantial backing, more than £20 million in new Series B funding, and proactive deployment of bidirectional charging technology, Indra is continuing to shape the future of energy integration in the EV sector. The company’s leadership is further solidified by industry accolades like the Special Recognition award at the 2024 EVIE Awards, acknowledging Indra’s pioneering bidirectional EV charging solutions.
